The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) partners with Latinx communities to end gender-based violence.
Created as a grassroots response to domestic and sexual violence, VIP has always centered Latinx survivors in its leadership and has worked to create a community of staff that reflects the rich national, ethnic and racial diversity of the communities it serves.
VIP operates three community-based social service programs, four residential shelter and housing programs, a bilingual helpline (English/Spanish), innovative economic justice, child and adolescent and sexual violence programs, and a robust community engagement team.
The Senior Accountant takes a lead role in managing daily bookkeeping, including daily income and expense transactions and account reconciliation.
This role is instrumental in preparing and submitting budgets, contracts and, reports, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of contract requirements and ensuring compliance with them.
The Senior Accountant supports fiscal leadership to prepare for grant-specific and organization-wide audits.
This position reports directly to the Comptroller and collaborates closely with VIP’s Data Team and all program leadership.
Essential Functions:
Maintain complete general ledger for all financial transactions of the organization;
Balance books for the preparation of reports to show income, expenses and other items relating to bookkeeping of the organization;
Track organization’s accounts payable and accounts receivable;
Enter and maintain cash receipts, disbursement journal and general ledger;
Prepare bank reconciliation for all bank accounts;
Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for different funding sources;
Track spending under all restricted grants and identify grants that are at risk of non-compliance to make timely recommendations;
Monitor grant financial reporting schedules and prepare the requisite financial progress reports on a timely basis;
Assist preparation for annual financial audits;
Assist preparation of annual budget for the organization;
Answers inquiries and questions regarding fiscal processes, researches and resolves issues while maintaining strong relations with the data team, program managers and staff.

Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree in accounting/finance or comparable experience in accounting and budgeting;
Must be experienced in working in the nonprofit sector;
Bilingual a plus (English/Spanish);
Working knowledge of fund accounting software (g.
Fund EZ) and a high degree of spreadsheet application proficiency are strongly preferred;
Strong verbal, written, communication and documenting skills;
Must be well organized, assertive, work independently and collectively, while maintaining a flexible work schedule;
Must have a strong commitment to working in diverse setting and to supporting delivery of culturally specific services;
Strong collaborative skills and approach to leadership that promotes staff growth and creativity;
Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copy & fax machine, phone system, etc.

Compensation & Benefits
Full-time, exempt position, working 35 hours per week with a pay range of $60,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience.
