The Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) is an acclaimed human services organization and one of the nation’s largest providers of supportive housing social services.

The Human Resources Generalist position is located at the main office in East Harlem.
The Receptionist provides central phone answering and reception services.
This position includes clerical work, facility maintenance, the moving and storing of supplies, and other general assistance duties.
This individual is expected to be responsive to the changing needs of the main office programs, able to perform fairly autonomously with clear instructions, and committed to helping the operations of the main office.
Responsibilities: Reception/Office Support Services Greet and welcome clients and guests Direct visitors to the appropriate person and office Answer, screen and forward incoming phone calls Update and distribute staff directories Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material Provide basic and accurate information regarding CUCS’s services in-person and via phone/email Receive, sort and distribute daily mail/deliveries Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk (maintaining logbooks, liaising with security desk, etc.
) Schedule appointments for CUCS’s Connect Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, and scanning Monitor and report facility problems Assist with vendor relations Maintain the reception’s filing system Provide general assistance, including setting up for special events Complete assignments within established time frames.
Adjust to new assignments and changing work load; adjust priorities as required; maintain composure and productivity under pressure and in challenging circumstances.
Access and appropriately utilize the complete array of internal resources available.
Program Management and Development Maintain a thorough understanding of all relevant policies regarding program’s administrative support functions.
Ensure that assigned duties are carried out in compliance with all relevant policies.
Work collaboratively as a part of the administrative support staff in identifying and responding to problems and opportunities in administrative support functions.
Proactively identify problems and take the initiative to raise them with supervisory staff.
Participate in modifying existing office systems to accommodate changing office and staff needs.
Recipient Relations Treat recipients with dignity and respect; maintain sensitivity to privacy and confidentiality; communicate empathy in an appropriate manner while maintaining professional boundaries.
Effectively manage own emotional response to situations including seeking out necessary support.
Provide feedback on recipient issues to appropriate clinical staff.
Promptly report recipient emergencies to clinical supervisory staff.
Team Work Participate actively in team meetings and other team-building activities and regularly incorporate information, learning and feedback into on-going responsibilities.
Identify potential problems affecting the services and participate as directed in the resolution of these problems.
Cooperate with colleagues; respect the rights and opinions of others; work effectively as part of a team and provide support when needed.
Communicate (verbal/written) in a manner that is clear, organized, and informative, appropriate to audience, and meets the intended purpose.
Routinely function as a resource to other administrative support and site members.
Participate in other program or agency services or activities as needed or assigned.
Use of Supervision Participate actively in weekly supervision and work proactively to create an effective relationship with supervisor.
Take initiative in setting supervisory agenda; provide supervisor with appropriate level of information regarding work activities.
Appropriately request support and supervision; respond well to feedback; follow directions and guidance.
Respond appropriately to program and agency supervisory and management personnel.
Professionalism Interact effectively with others regardless of level, status, or background.
Maintain a professional, respectful and objective manner at all times including difficult situations.

Schedule Management Report to work on time, as scheduled and remain throughout scheduled shift.
Schedule meal breaks in consultation with other staff to ensure coverage; relieve co-workers on time.
If unable to work due to illness, emergency or other reason, give supervisor required notice.
Submit requests for leave sufficiently in advance.
Maintain flexibility and consider program needs; maintain willingness to work during emergencies.
