Major responsibilities of the Lower School Director position include: - Manage the daily operation of the Lower School, consisting of 7 classrooms of Infant & Toddler (1 year old) students.
- Create a culture of support within the school (for staff, families and children).
- Ensuring health & safety in all aspects of the Lower School, including allergy plans, medication administration, cleanliness and sanitizing, neighborhood walks, fire drills, lockdown drills, etc.
- Learn all essential functions for each position in the school so you can support and inspire.
- Assist the Executive Director to ensure maximum enrollment and effective cost control.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Upper School Director daily on school operations.
- Plan student transitions with Upper School Director & Executive Director and host transition meetings with families.
- Oversee Lower School facility and support staff, including Floater Teacher Assistants.
- Oversee regulatory and accreditation compliance.
- Create nightly staff communication to stay connected with staff.
- Maintain schedules & daily ratio checks for the Lower School - Managing Lower School staff files.
- Monitor monthly health and safety paperwork including: infant sleep checks, kitchen logs, daily activities on Procare app, daily classroom opening and closing checklists, etc.
- Completing probationary goal setting with new staff as well as biannual staff evaluations.
- Monitor health and safety routines in the classroom for compliance.
- Maintain accident / incident reports and statement of illness forms.
Contact families where necessary.
- Participate in School Emergency Response Team.
Conduct monthly SERT meetings with Leadership Team.
- Participate in the interview process and hiring of teaching staff.
- Coordinate with other members of the Leadership Team to implement the training plan for new teaching staff.
- Promote teacher growth and development by participating in and leading in-service trainings for staff.
- Ensure classroom environment is developmentally appropriate and following Primrose Schools guidelines.
- Support teachers with behavior management in classrooms and put together behavior management plans when necessary.
- Conduct classroom observations to regularly support and ensure the implementation and delivery of the research-informed Primrose Balanced Learning® curriculum.

Required Qualifications and Experience: • A Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required.
• Valid NYS B-2 teaching certification required.
• Minimum three years in NYC in a Leadership role in a school.
• A strong commitment to building positive relationships with families and the community.
• At least two years of experience as a group teacher in a program for children under six years of age • Proven track record of successfully being part of a Leadership Team.
• CPR / First Aid certified required • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
