Job Summary Responsible for the day-to-day requirements of the Estimating Department for J.
Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc.
to produce estimates for projects that we typically pursue, in addition to projects in areas that we may choose to pursue in the future.
Projects being pursued by the department will include the following Lines of Business; Heavy Civil (pile supported foundations, large excavations, roads, bridges, site work, etc.
) Underground Utilities (water, electric, gas, storm, sanitary, communications, fiber, etc.
), Pipe Rehabilitation (trenchless), Guide Rail and Sign Structures, and Renewable Energy (wind/solar/battery storage/etc.
).
The geographic area we are currently pursuing work in includes New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
Essential Function:
•Responsible to develop a complete estimate for the opportunities that are assigned to you.
•Develop a schedule to complete each estimate in a timely manner.
•Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits.
•Review construction plans and gain a thorough understanding of work to be performed.
•Develop means and methods, with site conditions in mind, necessary to build the project.
•Read project specifications to understand specific requirements for the project.
•Perform quantity takeoffs as necessary.
•Instruct/teach and direct our Estimating Engineers for support help to perform quantity takeoffs and solicit vendors for quotes for all materials and subcontractors needed for the estimate.
•Descope all sub quotes received to verify conformance to RFQ issued to them, and correct as necessary.
• Develop an estimate for the project that includes a work breakdown structure for all items of work with labor, equipment, crew productions, and associated materials necessary for the completion of the work.
• Present /discuss /review the project and your estimate with upper management in a bid review.
•Close out/complete the estimate and submit estimate to owner by the required due date.
Minimum Qualifications and Required Skill:
• Degree in Civil Engineering or similar preferred.
• Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience as an estimator with steady growth in bidding larger and more complex projects.
• Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in field construction operations with a steady growth in responsibility.
• Ability to read & understand contract drawings and perform quantity takeoffs.
• Ability to read & understand contract specifications and associated contract documents.
• Ability to determine means and methods to construct a project.
• Ability at develop an estimate for the project that includes a work breakdown structure for all items with labor, equipment, crew productions, and associated materials necessary for the completion of the work.
• Ability to present /discuss /review the project and your estimate with upper management.
• Knowledge of, or willing to learn, an estimating software package (B2W preferred/training provided).
• Ability to communicate with the owner during the bid phase as necessary.
• Knowledge of Bluebeam, Agtek, and/or other estimating takeoff software preferred.
• Knowledge of Primavera and/or other construction scheduling software preferred.
• Higher level Excel skills are preferred.
• Microsoft Suite (Outlook/Word/Project/etc.
)
